If I had a penny for every time someone told me they hated talking about money, well… I’d be singing like Tevya from Fiddler on the Roof. (Yes, this is a fundraising email.)
It's so true though. For many people, talking about money is awkward, uncomfortable, and very stressful. Add in a wedding or a new baby, a fertility journey or losing a loved one - not to mention student loan debt or how your family of origin talks about money (or in most cases, does NOT talk about money) - and you’ve gotten yourself into a real tizzy.
Even if they are difficult discussions, at pivotal life moments Modern Jewish Couples supports couples in exploring life’s biggest questions through a Jewish lens - leading to essential conversations (like money) that transcend any particular occasion.
For example, when we ask wedding couples what causes them the most stress on their journey to marriage, they usually say money. MJC flips the script with them - supporting them with the tools to figure out how to talk about money and encouraging them to think about how they might do good for the world in a moment where it feels like they are throwing cash out the window.
We serve as thought partners for our beloveds and empower them to dream together: how does our spending and saving express our shared values? What are the charitable organizations we really care about? Instead of giving wedding swag to our guests, how might we give tzedakah (charity) to honor our guests?
Participants report that they feel less stressed, less isolated and more connected to one another, to community, and to Judaism. Dividends of meaning abound.
And now WE need YOUR help. This is our only fundraising campaign of 2024. Whether you give a penny, a multiple of $18, or any contribution that is meaningful to you - please consider adding Modern Jewish Couples to your year-end giving. We offer a sliding scale for participation in MJC programming to ensure everyone who wants to participate has access. Your donation will support workshops, cohorts and spiritual care - not only for couples, but for expectant parents, individuals on fertility journeys, parents of interfaith couples, Jews-by-Choice, and clergy.
Make a tax-deductible gift today and help us inspire the next generation of Modern Jewish Families to explore Jewish wisdom and build lives of intention and joy.
With gratitude for your support,
Rabbi Jen Gubitz
